Women who install in Honduras

A review of “MUA Instala 99,” an inaugural gathering of women artists organized by “Mujeres en las Artes” (Women in the Arts) in Tegucigalpa. The event proposed a series of exhibitions by artists from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, and Puerto Rico on the basis of the principle that a work of art is one of the basic ways that women can reflect the importance of their role in the construction of memory in society. The truly memorable part of the event, which included theater, dance, and video, was the way that the city opened its doors to the work of women artists from Central America and the Caribbean.
